wp508 combines the focus of WordPress with the standards and expectations of Section 508 to bring two of today’s most influential web initiatives together in an attempt to increase the awareness and the importance of internet accessibility for all individuals, including those with disabilities.
Introduction
WordPress has quickly become the website publishing platform of choice among developers, and striving for Section 508 compliance is important for even the most basic website that allows access to the general public. If you are unfamiliar with WordPress and/or Section 508, unfortunately this website does not serve to fully educate its audience on either subject. Rather, we assume you’ve found us with a basic understanding of both.
Internet accessibility is often times considered to be a subject that involves a complex understanding of technologies and processes. Only recently has emphasis been placed on the logical order and operation of how people utilize the internet, so it should come as no surprise that even less attention has been placed on how people with physical disabilities are impacted by similar technologies. Because of this, wp508 should always be considered a work in progress. As new information becomes available, changes will be made to best fit that input.
It should go without saying that wp508 does not and cannot currently promise to be the most user friendly WordPress theme out there, but it does try really darn hard to be. There are no guarantees expressed, written, implied, or otherwise, and the wp508 team cannot be held personally responsible for anything other than happiness, joy, smiling faces, and warm fuzzy feelings.
